Curatorial Statement
“Under the Covenant Sky” portrays a sacred moment of union, faith, and community. At the center of the composition stands a small village church illuminated by spiritual light, its doorway serving as the meeting place between human love and divine blessing. Before the entrance, the bride and groom embrace in a tender kiss, marking the beginning of a covenant witnessed not only by family and friends, but also by God.
Gathered around them are figures rendered in expressive silhouettes, representing the community that surrounds and supports the sacred bond of marriage. The church rises as both sanctuary and symbol, recalling the enduring traditions of Judeo-Christian faith in which marriage is understood as a holy commitment rather than a mere social contract.
The vivid blue forms surrounding the scene evoke an open heavenly canopy, while the expressive brushwork and layered textures create an atmosphere that is emotional rather than literal. Light, architecture, and human presence merge into a vision of celebration, devotion, and spiritual belonging.
Executed on recycled cardboard, the work transforms humble materials into a meditation on love, faith, and shared destiny. The painting reflects the German Expressionist tradition by emphasizing inner emotion over physical realism, inviting viewers to experience the joy, hope, and sacred promise contained within the moment.
