Witnesses
16 × 20 in.
Acrylic on recycled cardboard (food can cardboard packaging).
German Expressionist Figurative.
Witnesses explores the moral responsibility of those who observe spiritual error yet remain silent. The shadow-like figures stand between presence and absence, representing individuals confronted with a choice: to speak the truth or to look away. Inspired by passages such as Ezekiel 33:7–9, the work reflects the biblical image of the watchman, called to warn others when danger approaches. Through rough textures, muted earth tones, and expressive gestures, the recycled cardboard becomes a symbol of human fragility and accountability. The painting reminds viewers that silence in the face of what one believes to be wrong carries its own moral weight. In Christian faith, witnessing is not merely observing—it is faithfully proclaiming the truth with courage, humility, and love.
Biblical Inspiration: Ezekiel 33:7–9; Leviticus 5:1; James 4:17.
