Curatorial Statement
Generations of Silence explores the invisible inheritance passed from one generation to another. Four faces emerge from a vertical field of layered color and gestural marks, appearing as memories suspended in time. Rather than individual portraits, the figures function as emotional archetypes—mother, child, ancestor, witness.
The elongated wooden format resembles a family totem, a genealogical column where identities overlap and dissolve into one another. Expressions of concern, contemplation, vulnerability, and endurance coexist within the same structure, suggesting that joy, suffering, faith, and memory are carried collectively across generations.
Executed in ArNoUx’s characteristic German Expressionist language, the work privileges emotional truth over anatomical precision. The fractured lines, translucent layers, and atmospheric passages create a sense of psychological depth, allowing the viewer to encounter the figures not as people, but as echoes of lived experience.
The reclaimed wood support reinforces the theme of continuity, bearing the marks of time while becoming a vessel for remembrance, resilience, and human connection.
