The Pulse of Riverwalk presents Fort Lauderdale’s Riverwalk not merely as a physical location, but as a living organism shaped by time, movement, memory, and human connection.
At the center of the composition stands a monumental clock whose surface appears to dissolve. Its melting form suggests that time is never fixed: it passes through the city, alters its architecture, preserves its memories, and carries each generation toward an uncertain future. Behind and within the clock, the city emerges through expressive, fragmented strokes, as though downtown Fort Lauderdale itself exists inside the passage of time.
The dark suspended form is not a conventional clock hand. It functions as a symbolic pendulum—an enigmatic force representing the continuous pulse of life along the Riverwalk. Its movement may be understood as the rhythm of the city: people arriving and departing, boats crossing the water, communities gathering, businesses evolving, and countless personal histories unfolding along the river.
Created in a German Expressionist language, the work deliberately rejects photographic accuracy. Distorted forms, forceful brushwork, restrained colors, and layered surfaces communicate an emotional rather than literal portrait of the city. The muted blues and grays evoke the river, urban structures, memory, and the quiet moments that coexist with the energy of downtown life.
The glass support adds another conceptual dimension. Glass can reflect, reveal, and separate simultaneously.
