The Life Before the Veil explores memory, identity, sacrifice, and the passage of time through the figure of an older nun who recalls the woman she once was before entering religious life.
The central figure appears absorbed in reflection, while the younger woman in the background emerges almost like an apparition from another period of her existence. She is not simply another character; she represents memory itself—the life, youth, and identity that existed before the vows.
The birds surrounding the figures function as symbols of freedom, memory, and the persistence of the inner self. Although the nun has chosen a life of spiritual devotion and enclosure, her memories remain alive and capable of crossing the invisible boundaries between past and present.
