In this monumental expressionist composition, four celestial figures emerge from a turbulent atmosphere of blue, crimson, black, and gold. Their solemn faces do not depict fear, but divine authority. Beneath them lies the shadowy form of Leviathan, the biblical creature associated with chaos, pride, rebellion, and the ancient forces that oppose God’s order.
Rather than engaging in visible combat, the angels simply stand above the beast. Their victory is already accomplished. The act of treading upon Leviathan symbolizes spiritual dominion over evil, echoing the biblical promise that darkness and corruption ultimately remain under the authority of God.
