Curatorial Statement
The Angel of Compassion portrays a celestial being whose features subtly merge human sensitivity with the strength and gentleness associated with the ox. Through delicate brushwork and luminous tones, the figure emerges as a guardian of mercy, extending comfort to those experiencing suffering, loneliness, illness, or uncertainty.
The soft expression and reaching arm symbolize divine assistance, healing, and the quiet presence of God during life’s most vulnerable moments. Rather than presenting power through dominance, this angel reveals strength through kindness, service, and compassion.
The figure’s ox-like appearance recalls the vision of the prophet Ezekiel, where one of the four living creatures bears the face of an ox. In biblical symbolism, the ox represents faithful service, endurance, sacrifice, and strength devoted to God’s work. Here, those qualities are transformed into an image of heavenly compassion.
