Description:
Justice Is a Woman is a powerful, expressionist interpretation of Lady Justice, stripped of her blindfold yet layered in ambiguity and emotion. Painted on a square piece of thick cardstock, the figure rises from a storm of monochrome and fire—her face partly obscured by foggy, smeared textures, symbolic of justice blurred, delayed, or questioned. Above her, the word “JUSTICE” is carved boldly across a background of blue and white, echoing both the flag and the sky—law and spirit.
With strokes that feel more like protests than brushwork, ArNoUx presents justice not as a cold, static concept, but as a woman—tired, enduring, complex. The red slashes across the composition evoke danger, urgency, and sacrifice. Her open mouth, half-formed, suggests that justice is not only seen—it must be spoken.
Executed with urgency on a cluttered, heavily worked surface, the piece radiates immediacy and defiance. It belongs to ArNoUx’s 2025 series on social tension, memory, and truth-telling.
