Curatorial Statement:
Angels of the Unsteady Faith unfolds as a sculptural meditation on the fragile boundary between belief and doubt. Through an expressive assemblage of painted metal and constructed sail forms, the work stages a moment of spiritual instability: the instant when faith wavers and the body begins to sink.
The fleet of boats—fragmented, vibrant, and structurally tense—represents the human journey across uncertain waters. Each vessel carries the mark of struggle, resisting collapse while simultaneously surrendering to the forces that surround it. Above them, a suspended, ambiguous form evokes the presence of angels—not as rescuers, but as silent witnesses to the human condition, observing the tension between trust and fear.
The composition rejects stability: planes dissolve, gravity feels negotiable, and narrative floats without anchor. This disorientation echoes the emotional intensity of German Expressionism, where internal truth overtakes external order.
At its core, the work references the biblical passage of Peter walking on water—his faith sustained only while his gaze remains fixed on Christ. The moment he shifts his focus, he begins to sink. Here, that instant is eternalized: a suspended crisis of vision, where salvation and سقوط coexist.
Materially, the use of recycled elements reinforces a theology of redemption—what is discarded is transformed, what is broken still carries purpose.
This sculpture does not depict the miracle; it captures the fracture within it.
Bible Verse (integrado para sala o ficha):
“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’”
— Matthew 14:30
