Angel of Poverty

Description

Angel of Poverty
German Expressionist Recyclable Art, 2026
Medium: Acrylic and mixed media on recycled cardboard box
Dimensions: Approx. 36 x 24 inches
Artist: ArNoUx
This work speaks of the sacred dignity that survives even in scarcity. These angels may come from discarded cardboard, from forgotten boxes, from places where society no longer looks — yet they remain angels. No poverty can remove what Heaven has already named.
The face emerges through violent strokes, splashes, and wounds of color, carrying the exhaustion of humanity and the silence of those who sleep with little, just as Jesus Himself rested with nothing but a stone beneath His head. Poverty did not take away His divinity, and it does not take away human dignity either.
This piece confronts the illusion that worth is measured by money, education, status, or social power. Dignity belongs to another realm. It cannot be purchased, inherited, or stolen.
The recycled cardboard becomes a theological statement itself: what the world throws away can still contain light, soul, holiness, and presence.
In this German Expressionist composition, the angel does not appear triumphant or adorned. Instead, it appears enduring — carrying the weight of survival while still looking directly at humanity with sacred authority.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
— Matthew 5:3
