Curatorial Statement:
The Wall Box is a visceral, compact expression of material transformation. Painted directly on a fragment of found cardboard, this work by ArNoUx captures the raw immediacy of the German Expressionist tradition while injecting a streetwise, almost post-industrial energy.
The composition is vertically oriented, suggesting a portal or miniature shrine. Bursts of bold crimson and black crash against a serene upper sky-blue field—an internal conflict between grounded gravity and spiritual ascension. A leaf-shaped yellow form peeks through on the right, evoking nature breaking through decay, while a blurred text beneath the surface hints at its former life as packaging.
The textures are palpable: paint dragged, scratched, pooled—forcing the eye to navigate terrain rather than surface. This is not a painting as window, but as object: worn, present, alive.
The Wall Box reclaims discarded matter and transforms it into an intimate altar of feeling, where color becomes memory and cardboard becomes sacred ground.
