CURATORIAL STATEMENT (English)
In this German Expressionist composition, ArNoUx evokes a haunting landscape where memory, war, and identity collide. The work reveals an ancient settlement—half church, half military base—buried beneath layers of time and emotion. The dark architectural silhouette in the background suggests a fortress built for protection, yet now abandoned, becoming a spiritual ruin.
Emerging from this fractured environment is a mask-like face, not fully human and not fully spirit. It rises from the paint as if carved by centuries of conflict, echoing the unresolved stories of those who once walked this land. The mask becomes a silent witness: guardian, soldier, and soul all at once.
The pink and terra tones evoke flesh and vulnerability, while the deep greens and blacks root the scene in earth, moss, and forgotten trenches. The blurred strokes—raw, instinctive, unfiltered—are signature ArNoUx: a direct transmission from the subconscious, where form emerges through emotional truth instead of physical accuracy.
The painting becomes an archaeological excavation of the soul, uncovering what is hidden beneath layers of time, trauma, and memory.
A village.
A base.
A church.
A mask.
And the silent echo of everything left behind.
