Curatorial Description
Hiding From My Sins is a deeply emotional German Expressionist abstract by ArNoUx, where the figure of a face seems to emerge and disappear at the same time—an intentional metaphor for guilt, self-confrontation, and the spiritual instinct to hide from one’s own failures.
With heavy strokes of ochre yellow, pale blue, grey, and black, the painting creates a blurred, trembling mask that appears to melt into the background. The distortion of the eyes—suggested, fragmented, almost erased—represents the internal struggle of someone who cannot fully face what they have done, yet cannot escape the truth either.
The vertical strokes resemble falling curtains or veils, symbolizing attempts to cover the spirit, to bury remorse, or to hide from divine accountability. The chaotic texture adds weight to the emotional atmosphere, embodying the tension between confession and concealment.
This work captures the raw vulnerability of the human soul, the fear of being seen, and the silent cry for forgiveness.
