In this German Expressionist composition, ArNoUx reflects on the hidden aftermath of war. Two ghostly figures emerge from a turbulent sea, representing the innocent lives lost to bombs, missiles, and conflicts carried out in the name of power or justification. The ocean becomes both witness and grave, where the dead rise symbolically as memories that refuse to disappear.
Behind them, almost silently, angels appear in conversation. These angels do not intervene in the violence of humanity; instead, they observe, reflect, and bear witness to the consequences of war. Their presence suggests a spiritual dimension where the tragedy of human conflict is contemplated beyond the battlefield.
The rough textures and expressive brushwork evoke the emotional language of German Expressionism, where distortion and materiality reveal emotional truth rather than physical realism.
