Clothed in Rags, Crowned in Light portrays a woman living in material poverty, her body covered with worn and fragile garments, yet her spirit remains untouched by deprivation.
Constructed from clay, cement, paper, and fragments of iron, the sculpture deliberately combines humble, rough materials to emphasize hardship, endurance, and human vulnerability. The irregular surfaces and distressed fabrics become visual symbols of a life marked by struggle.
Yet poverty is not the true subject of the work. At its center is faith. Although the woman possesses very little in the material world, she carries within her something immeasurably greater: the light of Jesus Christ.
Her outward appearance contrasts with the spiritual richness of her inner life. The work speaks of dignity beyond possessions, faith beyond circumstances, and the transforming presence of Christ within those who trust in Him.
She may be clothed in rags, but her soul is crowned in light.
