Ancestral Totem is a figurative expressionist assemblage that explores the coexistence of cultures, ethnicities, and generations within a shared human history. Multiple faces emerge from the natural palm structure, representing Indigenous, African, European, Asian, and other ancestral roots.
The largest face presides over the composition like a guardian, while the smaller figures appear as memories carried through generations. Their differences do not separate them; instead, they form a single spiritual and cultural body.
The expressive brushwork, layered textures, and deliberately imperfect features evoke the marks left by migration, struggle, survival, and cultural transformation. The natural forms at the base reinforce the object’s ceremonial presence, transforming the reclaimed material into a contemporary ancestral totem.
