Curatorial Statement
Sent by Jesus of Nazareth is a conceptual mixed-media sculpture depicting two angels positioned on opposite sides of a single form, standing above a sphere that represents the world. The angels have been sent by Jesus of Nazareth to confront the demonic forces that seek to corrupt humanity.
The work establishes a clear spiritual order: the angels do not possess victory through their own power. Jesus of Nazareth alone is victorious. The angels are His servants and messengers, acting in obedience to His authority and carrying out the mission He has given them.
ArNoUx transforms discarded and ordinary materials into objects of spiritual significance. The upper form was created from a repurposed fly swatter, an object normally associated with eliminating contamination or infestation. Within the sculpture, it becomes a symbolic instrument of spiritual warfare and purification.
The Styrofoam sphere suggests the fragility of the world and humanity’s vulnerability to spiritual conflict. Beneath it, a recycled baking soda box serves as part of the structural base. Baking soda, associated with whiteness, cleansing, and purification, acquires a spiritual meaning within the work. It symbolizes the cleansing of what has been corrupted and the restoration of purity through divine authority.
The discarded piece of wood, found on the street, functions as a podium, pedestal, or altar. Its humble origin reinforces the idea that God may use what has been abandoned, rejected, or considered insignificant to fulfill a greater purpose.
Through the emotional force of German Expressionism, the sculpture embraces rough surfaces, visible construction, distorted faces, recycled matter, and an intentionally unrefined structure. Its power comes not from traditional beauty, but from urgency, faith, transformation, and spiritual testimony.
The sculpture ultimately proclaims that the angels may be sent to fight, protect, and serve, but the authority, power, and final victory belong only to Jesus of Nazareth.
