Curatorial Statement
Revelation is a double-sided painted wooden panel created from a discarded piece of reclaimed wood, transforming an abandoned object into a vessel of spiritual reflection. Painted on both front and back, the work functions as a diptych of vision and awakening, presenting two human-like faces that appear suspended between earthly experience and divine encounter.
Rendered in a German Expressionist language of loose brushwork, muted grays, deep blacks, and flashes of luminous color, the figures emerge as messengers rather than portraits. Their solemn gazes suggest moments of inner revelation—those quiet encounters in which angels communicate guidance, warning, comfort, or truth to humanity.
The front image conveys contemplation and sacred gravity, marked by the symbolic cross resting at the center of the composition. The reverse side presents a softer and more ethereal presence, as if the revelation has already been received and is now unfolding within the soul. Together, both surfaces create a dialogue between the seen and the unseen, faith and mystery, human vulnerability and divine presence.
By employing recycled materials, ArNoUx reinforces the idea that revelation often emerges from what has been overlooked, discarded, or forgotten. The reclaimed wood becomes both support and metaphor: a transformed object carrying a renewed spiritual purpose.
Rather than illustrating angels directly, Revelation invites viewers to consider the subtle ways divine messages appear in everyday life. The work stands as a meditation on spiritual awareness, reminding us that revelation is not always thunderous—it often arrives quietly, through symbols, intuition, memory, and grace.
