Description
Title:
Angel of the Sphere
Curatorial Statement:
Angel of the Sphere explores the presence of a spiritual entity contained within a fragile, everyday structure. Executed on a recycled cardboard popcorn box, the work transforms a disposable object into a vessel of contemplation, elevating the ordinary into a site of divine observation.
The angelic figure emerges through loose, instinctive gestures, its form partially dissolved into the surface. The face is not fully defined, suggesting a being that exists beyond fixed identity—an observer within a contained sphere of reality. The red arc above the head operates as a symbolic halo, but also as an energetic field, indicating both protection and tension within this confined space.
ArNoUx employs a German Expressionist approach, prioritizing emotional intensity and material presence over anatomical clarity. The brushwork is raw, immediate, and tactile, reinforcing the idea that the figure is not painted but revealed through interaction with the material. The use of recycled cardboard introduces a critical layer: the sacred is not distant or elevated, but embedded within the discarded and overlooked.
The “sphere” becomes both a physical and conceptual boundary—representing the worlds humans inhabit, the mental spaces they construct, and the spiritual dimensions that surround them. Within this limited structure, the angel exists as a silent witness, observing, recording, and enduring.
The work ultimately reframes value: what is considered waste becomes a carrier of meaning, and what appears fragile contains a profound spiritual presence.
