“Papa Pitufo Expressionist” is a playful yet emotionally charged German Expressionist reinterpretation of the iconic animated character Papa Smurf.
Created on drawing cardstock, the artwork merges bright blues with deep charcoal strokes, giving the legendary figure an abstract, fluid presence — as if he were dissolving into pure movement and energy.
The swirling blues suggest both innocence and wisdom, qualities associated with Papa Smurf, while the expressive black contours add tension and depth. Splashes of pink and black on the left break the composition, reminding the viewer that even childhood symbols can carry emotional resonance when seen through an adult, expressionist lens.
